Right after you have a baby is not the time when you are generally feeling your sexiest, right? But still as women, we always want to look pretty, even if we have to wear functional nursing bras. So can bras for nursing be both pretty and functional? The answer is absolutely - YES!
First let's tackle functional.
Here is what to look for a pretty nursing bras.
Does your nursing bra fit well?
No matter how good your bra looks, it needs to fit. If you are unsure about how to fit your bra correctly, check out this post on how to fit a nursing bra.
Is it easy to operate?
This question makes your bra sound like a piece of machinery, but it is important. The nursing flap needs to be able to open one handed without a lot of hassle.
Is it comfortable?
You should always look for seamless nursing bras (or at least is should have no seams over your nipples). This is very, very important. Your nipples may be sore already from nursing... you don't want to make matters worse.
Is it supportive?
Your nursing bra should be very supportive and not leave room for a lot of motion. This will make you much more comfortable in the long run. This is particularly important if you are well endowed. You can read more about plus size nursing bras here.
Once you have all of these bases covered then you can go for pretty. These are some of my favorite pretty nursing bras (I love lace).

Like many women, I have a lot of bras. I just like them I guess. But nursing bras are a different matter all together. How many should you buy when you will only be using them for about a year?
I think that the best tactic is to start out with two or three (don't forget to measure yourself for a good fit ). The reason is that after you've been nursing for about a month your size can change pretty dramatically. So to start out with get two for daytime and one sleep nursing bra, and then measure again in a month.
After that (and when you know you are going to stick with nursing) buy more. My personal preference is to have at least 4 bras for daytime and several for night, with at least a couple of them being nursing sports bras, because I like to work out. But mostly it is just personal preference.
When it comes to actually buying the nursing bras, there are two things that I always tell people to look for. The first is comfort, which is very, very important when you are nursing and the second is the nursing opening itself. Is it easy to use, or difficult? You want to be able to open your nursing bra with just one hand to make nursing your baby easy.
Finally, when you are considering how many nursing bras to buy, you will want to think about you and your lifestyle. If you are really good at keeping up on laundry, you can buy fewer. But keep in mind that new babies are exhausting and you may not keep up on things quite as well as normal during the first few months - this is pretty common and nothing to feel bad about. If you think that is the case you will want to purchase more bras. So you will need at least 3 to start out with and then 4 to 8 depending on your personality. Get the best nursing bra you can afford and you won't be disappointed.
Congratulations on your decision to breastfeed!

When you are a woman who has been naturally endowed with large breasts and need larger nursing bras, it seems like you can't find anything to fit at all. This is especially true since your breasts will tend to get even larger when your milk comes in. Ebay and Amazon are both great places to find plus size nursing bras that actually fit. If you are unsure of how to fit your bra here is a post I did with a video showing exactly how to fit nursing bras.
Here are some large cup size nursing bras from Ebay that are available now:

Medela Womens Sleep Nursing Bra - White Average Rating: ![]() ReviewsThis nursing sleep bra does an adequate job, but if I were to do it over again, I don't think I would order it. I guess bras are seldom one-size-fits-all. I am 5'8" and wear a 36b. I ordered a large (a size up based on the recommendations of other reviewers)and a smaller size definitely would not have fit. The cups provide all the coverage that I need, but it is hard to imagine how they would work for someone bustier. Also, the straps are not adjustable so the back rides up way too far. Perhaps it would work better for someone shorter? I do wear the bra at night with nursing pads and the material is comfortable and the draw back cups make it easy to night nurse. It prevents leakage at night for me, however I wouldn't wear the bra during the day because it is not at all supportive. This is easily one of my top 5 "MUST HAVES" for pregnancy. For most women, pregnancy equals sore, uncomfortable, and sometimes even swollen breasts that just don't always want to cooperate at night. Who needs to add that to the long list of things making sleep at night almost impossible? This sleep bra is wonderful for giving that extra support you'll need at night without causing the soreness that a regular bra can cause. I barely feel it all night. This is NOT a bra to be used during the daytime. It's not made for that, and it really won't work well if you're hoping to use it that way. I got two of these for my first pregnancy, and I never want to be pregnant one without at least one! It's also perfect for breastfeeding. It's really easy to use and move when you need to breastfeed, it will hold breast pads in place overnight for you, and you don't even have to deal with annoying snaps that other breastfeeding bras have. Who wants to fumble around half asleep at 3 am with snaps and hooks while a baby is crying at you? I loved the first one I bought, and went for the second. The only thing it is hard to guess your size the first time, but since the difference is not that much, I can still use the M and the L, of course a bit more loose. Soft, light fabric, ideal for the warm weather, no hard parts, ideal for sleeping and or around the house. I recommend it. The fabric is soft, stretchy, and does a pretty good job of mild support during sleep, but I can't bear to wear it. The sides are sewn securely, but at the bottom edge of the band it is pointy where it digs into the skin and is quite unbearable. I tried wearing it a couple of times, but ended up with lesions that caused pain then when wearing my regular pain-free day bras. As far as I can tell, there's no way to get rid of the point without compromising the integrity of the seam. I can't recommend this product just because who knows if you'll get one that has pointy edges or not... I always wear small size, but this small is made for short people only! If you are a tall(I'm 5'10) person, get at least medium. The bra is very nice, soft, but too short on my chest. |

Bravado Womens Seamless Nursing Bra - Basic Color List Price: $49.00 Average Rating: ![]() ReviewsI purchased several other brands of nursing bras, both with and without underwires. I could not handle the underwires and I am a 34 D. I ordered this in Medium and it fits perfectly. It is the most comfortable nursing bra out there and provides great support! I have worn it all day and night and it has never bothered me the way other bras do. This is the only one I will wear while my baby is nursing. This bra is amazing. I love how comfortable it is. It's also very supportive (I wear a medium) and it doesn't show through other clothes. I got 4 of them and will use them throughout my baby's first year or whenever he decides to stop breast feeding. I would buy one in white and chocolate as well if they made them in those colors. This bra is great. The comfort and quality is far better than what the local maternity and bra shops had. The removable pads were anoying the first use, but it was because I've never used them before. Once I found the proper position to put them in the bra it was perfect. With proper positioning of the cups they become hardly visible. After trying Medela bras(and hating them!)in my 8th month of pregnancy, I decided to spend a little more and get the Body Silk bras. They are fantastic! Great fit and I don't even feel like I'm wearing anything. I deduct a star for the foam inserts. While they don't show much under a t-shirts, I wish they covered the whole cup as you can clearly see the line. Overall, totally worth the price! The Bravado! Body Silk seamless nursing bra is a decent nursing bra. The support is OK for smaller and medium sizes; it is comfortable and soft. The clips are the standard plastic clips that have become pretty much universal for nursing bras. One thing I really don't like is that the removable pads have a tendency to slide around and sometimes fold up when the cup is opened, which means every time you finish nursing you have to rearrange the inner pad. This is not necessarily something that could be discreetly accomplished in public or in mixed company -- just something to think about. If one does not use the pads, then there is nipple show-through, as with practically every other nursing bra out there (seriously, what are these companies thinking?). Overall, this nursing bra is good for casual, everyday wear. |

Motherhood Maternity: Light Support Nursing Sleep Bra Average Rating: ![]() ReviewsThe straps are average length so if you are 5'10" like me, this bra will be too short for you and will ride up. I tried going up a size to get an extra 1/2 inch, but the increase in width made it ride up more. I haven't found anything for tall women, so I've used this through 2 pregnancies, but I'm really tired of it riding up and consequently not providing the support I need. It also crosses higher than shown, so it can be seen, even when wearing modest pajamas. I actually started buying nursing bras early in my pregnancy because my breasts started sagging severely and it felt so uncomfortable. This bra has helped so much, and I'm so glad I bought it. It's perfect for just lounging around in the house and feels so comfortable. I hang-dry it after taking it out of the washer to keep the quality in tact, and so far haven't had much problem with it. This is probably best for small or medium-size breasted ladies. It may not work for larger-breasted women, but you probably just have to try it yourself. While the bra itself is handy due to the ease of nursing in it, I found this to be the most uncomfortable bra I've ever owned! If you like sports bras, then this might appeal to you as they are very, very similar. I personally cannot stand the feel of a sports bra. The high back bothered me immensely and even though the elastic was definitely not what I would describe as tight it somehow managed to feel constricting around my ribcage. The actual covering for the breast did not lay flat and was loose on my breasts. It didn't really offer *any* support at all and any nursing pads I used wouldn't stay in place throughout the night! i ordered an xl because an xl nursing tank fits perfect, it was too big but i took off tags too early to return :-s my bad but anyways, product still works perfect! very comfy even if too big :-p This is very lightweight, so if you leak, you still need to wear a pad even at night. But it allows for quick middle of the night nursing with easy access. |

STRETCH FABRIC LACE TRIM WRAP COTTON / SPANDEX NURSING SLEEP BRA HAND WASH IMPORTED |
One of the things that I like best about Amazon is that the bras are rated directly by the customers, so that you know exactly what other peoples experiences are when it comes to bras. It gives you a lot more confidence with what you buy. There is always a nursing bras sale at Amazon too.
Some of the things you should look for when it comes to nursing bras are:
What does the lining of the bra look like?
You want the inside of the bra to be smooth soft and seam free. Your nipples will be tender for a while and you want a bra that doesn't rub against them.
What is the nursing fastener like?
You should be able to unhook and rehook the fastener with one hand, because you will need to when you have a hungry, crying baby.
Does the bra have wide supportive straps?
This is really important for fuller busted women. The bra needs to have wide supportive straps so that you can protect both your breasts and your back.
Whatever nursing bra you decide on, be sure to get one that fits correctly. It will make your nursing experience much easier and much more enjoyable. Congratulations on your decision to nurse your infant!

Have you ever seen the Oprah shows where women are wearing the wrong size bra and then get the right size bra? It's pretty incredible the difference in their looks and sometimes even personalities.
With nursing bras, fit becomes even more important. As every woman who has had a baby knows, your bras size can change a great deal from before pregnancy to after the baby is born, and you need to have nursing bras that really fit.
A good fitting bra will go a long way toward making you more comfortable when you are nursing your baby. Luckily fitting nursing bras uses the same technique as fitting a regular bra, and is really easy to do yourself.
Step 1. - Determining Band Size
Take your tape measure and measure directly under the band of your current bra (right under your breasts. Write this number down.
If the measurement is even, add 4"
If the measurement is odd, add 5"
This is your band size.
Step 2. - Determining Cup Size
Take your tape measure and measure over the fullest part of your bust then write the number down in inches. The difference between this measurement and the band size is your cup size. Here is a chart to help.
| 0"-1/2" | AA |
| 1/2"- 1" | A |
| 2" | B |
| 3" | C |
| 4" | D |
| 5" | DD or E |
| 6" | DDD or F |
| 7" | G |
| 8" | H |
| 9" | I |
| 10" |
J |
Here is a video that shows you exactly how to take the measurements.
Having great fitting nursing bras is as simple as these two measurements. You can either do the measurements yourself or have a bra fitter do them for you. You can find quality bra fitters at many major department stores. Whichever way you go, you will have a great fitting comfortable nursing bra.
